MacMillan Bloedel's Van Ply plywood division in 1958

This is mill where my father Axel von Schulmann worked from 1954 till the fall of 1983 when he was offered early retirement.   My father worked graveyard shift for most of his time at the mill.   He said it was because graveyard was only a seven hour shift but he got paid for eight.

I never got a tour of the VanPly division, but in 1977 I took a tour of the MacBlo plywood mill in Port Alberni with my father.   My father knew a lot more about the mill operations than the summer student hired to lead the tour.

This footage comes British Pathe, the online source material has no sound but clearly this clip would have originally been narrated.
